Zusammenfassung: | Both a tribute to the unique experiences of individual Native Americans and a celebration of the values that draw American Indians together, this book explores contemporary Native life. Based on personal experience and grounded in journalism, this story begins with the repatriation of ancestral remains, excavated during an archaeological expedition nearly a century earlier, to the Pueblo peoples of New Mexico. This event, along with subsequent repatriations, has accelerated similar momentum across much of Native America. Author Catherine C. Robbins traces this restorative effect in areas such as economic development, urbanization, the arts, science, and health care. Through dozens of interviews, Robbins draws out the voices of Indian people, some well-known and many at the grassroots level, to speak against the background of the narrative's historical context. The result is a rich account of Native American life in contemporary America, revealing not a monolithic "Indian" experience, but rather a mosaic of diverse peoples existing on a continuum that marks both their distinctions and their shared realities.--From publisher description |

Robbins traces this restorative effect in areas such as economic development, urbanization, the arts, science, and health care. Through dozens of interviews, Robbins draws out the voices of Indian people, some well-known and many at the grassroots level, to speak against the background of the narrative's historical context. The result is a rich account of Native American life in contemporary America, revealing not a monolithic "Indian" experience, but rather a mosaic of diverse peoples existing on a continuum that marks both their distinctions and their shared realities.--From publisher description</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Indians of North America</subfield><subfield code="x">Social life and customs.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85065384</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Indians of North America</subfield><subfield code="x">Material culture.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85065323</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="x">Social life and customs.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85140527</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">États-Unis</subfield><subfield code="x">Murs et coutumes.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">HISTORY</subfield><subfield code="x">Native American.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Indians of North America</subfield><subfield code="x">Material culture</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Indians of North America</subfield><subfield code="x">Social life and customs</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Manners and customs</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">United States</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtxgQXMWqmjMjjwXRHgrq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">All Indians do not live in teepees (or casinos) (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFRyr7WPc6kwvjH89dpgcd</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Robbins, Catherine C.</subfield><subfield code="t">All Indians do not live in teepees (or casinos).</subfield><subfield code="d">Lincoln : University of Nebraska Press, ©2011</subfield><subfield code="z">9780803239739</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2011011320</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)711777247</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=445982</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">BiblioBoard</subfield><subfield code="b">BIBD</subfield><subfield code="n">29a56167-ece2-4576-a197-d941d298fdc1</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL915027</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10559307</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">445982</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest MyiLibrary Digital eBook Collection</subfield><subfield code="b">IDEB</subfield><subfield code="n">359619</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">allindiansdonotl0000robb</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">6920281</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

Introduction : flying together -- The unconquerables -- Thoughts from the chief -- An encampment -- The way we should -- Where hatred was born -- The drum -- Buckskin boxes, galactic explosion -- Disclosures : we help each other. Both a tribute to the unique experiences of individual Native Americans and a celebration of the values that draw American Indians together, this book explores contemporary Native life. The result is a rich account of Native American life in contemporary America, revealing not a monolithic "Indian" experience, but rather a mosaic of diverse peoples existing on a continuum that marks both their distinctions and their shared realities.--From publisher description Print version record.
