Zusammenfassung: | A wide-ranging consideration of the place of dreams and visions in Islamic societies from the pre-modern period to the present. Dreams and visions have always been important in Islamic societies. Yet, their pervasive impact on Muslim communities and on the lives of individual Muslims remains largely unknown and rather surprising to Westerners. This book addresses this gap in understanding with a fascinating and diverse account, taking readers from premodern Islam to the present day. Dreams and visions are shown to have been, and to be, significant in a range of social, educational, and cultural roles. The book includes a wealth of examples detailing the Sufi experience. Contributors use Arabic, Persian, Indian, Central Asian, and Ottoman sources and employ approaches grounded in history, sociology, psychology, anthropology, religious studies, and literary analysis. This is an illuminating work, showing how ordinary Muslims, Muslim notables, Sufis, legal scholars, and rulers have perceived both themselves and the world around them through the prism of dreams and visions. |

This is an illuminating work, showing how ordinary Muslims, Muslim notables, Sufis, legal scholars, and rulers have perceived both themselves and the world around them through the prism of dreams and visions.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Dreams</subfield><subfield code="x">Religious aspects</subfield><subfield code="x">Islam.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2019002454</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Visions.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85143882</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh93007047</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Rêves</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect religieux</subfield><subfield code="x">Islam.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Visions.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Livres numériques.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">e-books.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">RELIGION</subfield><subfield code="x">Islam</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Dreams</subfield><subfield code="x">Religious aspects</subfield><subfield code="x">Islam</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Visions</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Felek, Özgen.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Knysh, Alexander D.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Dreams and visions in Islamic societies.</subfield><subfield code="d">Albany : State University of New York Press, ©2012</subfield><subfield code="z">9781438439938</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2011010850</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)707887002</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">UPCC book collections on Project MUSE.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=437235</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL3407041</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10570783</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">437235</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Project MUSE</subfield><subfield code="b">MUSE</subfield><subfield code="n">muse19930</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">7486417</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">9450406</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">hoopla Digital</subfield><subfield code="b">HOPL</subfield><subfield code="n">MWT15236642</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

A wide-ranging consideration of the place of dreams and visions in Islamic societies from the pre-modern period to the present.
