Zusammenfassung: | This volume offers a fresh, multifaceted exploration of women and Confucianism in mid- to late-Chosoán Korea (mid-sixteenth to early twentieth century). Using primary sources and perspectives from social history, intellectual history, literature, and political thought, contributors challenge unitary views of Confucianism as a system of thought, of women as a group, and of the relationship between the two.Much earlier scholarship has focused on how women were oppressed under the strict patriarchal systems that emerged as Confucianism became the dominant social ideology during the Chosoán dynasty (1392-1910). Contributors to this volume bring to light the varied ways that diverse women actually lived during this era, from elite yangban women to women who were enslaved. Women are shown to have used various strategies to seek status, economic rights, and more comfortable spaces, with some women even emerging as Confucian intellectuals and exemplars. |

Women are shown to have used various strategies to seek status, economic rights, and more comfortable spaces, with some women even emerging as Confucian intellectuals and exemplars.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Women in Confucianism</subfield><subfield code="z">Korea</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Korea</subfield><subfield code="x">Social life and customs</subfield><subfield code="y">1392-1910.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh92003078</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Femmes dans le confucianisme</subfield><subfield code="z">Corée</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Corée</subfield><subfield code="x">Murs et coutumes</subfield><subfield code="y">1392-1910.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">RELIGION</subfield><subfield code="x">Confucianism.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Manners and customs</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Women in Confucianism</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Korea</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">1392-1910</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Kim, Youngmin.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Pettid, Michael J.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Women and Confucianism in Chosŏn Korea (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGj8wFbX3KmHBv7tTtDxMq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Women and Confucianism in Chosŏn Korea.</subfield><subfield code="d">Albany : State University of New York Press, ©2011</subfield><subfield code="z">9781438437750</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2011003129</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)702940796</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=408721</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">De Gruyter</subfield><subfield code="b">DEGR</subfield><subfield code="n">9781438437774</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Ebook Library</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL3407152</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10574013</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">408721</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Project MUSE</subfield><subfield code="b">MUSE</subfield><subfield code="n">muse14198</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">7040875</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">7295074</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

Print version record. This volume offers a fresh, multifaceted exploration of women and Confucianism in mid- to late-Chosoán Korea (mid-sixteenth to early twentieth century).
