Zusammenfassung: | From the Publisher: Unlike previous books on the history of vegetarianism, Sins of the Flesh examines the history of vegetarianism in its ethical dimensions, from the origins of humanity through to the present. Full ethical consideration for animals resulting in the eschewing of flesh arose after the Aristotelian period in Greece and recurred in Ancient Rome, but then mostly disappeared for centuries. Despite the occasional presence of ascetic and cultural vegetarianism, it was not until the turn of the nineteenth century that vegetarian thought was revived and enjoyed some success; it subsequently went into another period of decline that lasted through much of the twentieth century. The authority-questioning cultural revolution of the 1960s brought a fresh resurgence of vegetarian ethics that continues to the present day. |

The authority-questioning cultural revolution of the 1960s brought a fresh resurgence of vegetarian ethics that continues to the present day.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Vegetarianism</subfield><subfield code="x">Moral and ethical aspects</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Vegetarianism</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Social values.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85124083</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Diet, Vegetarian</subfield><subfield code="x">history</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Ethics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Social Values</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Végétarisme</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect moral</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Végétarisme</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Valeurs sociales.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">NATURE</subfield><subfield code="x">Animal Rights.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Social values</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vegetarianism</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vegetarianism</subfield><subfield code="x">Moral and ethical aspects</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vegetarismus</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="0">http://d-nb.info/gnd/4187457-2</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ethik</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vegetarisme.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ethische aspecten.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Geschichte</subfield><subfield code="2">swd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Sins of the flesh (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFKTgP4FDtCmWC7fMFXgTd</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Preece, Rod, 1939-</subfield><subfield code="t">Sins of the flesh.</subfield><subfield code="d">Vancouver : UBC Press, ©2008</subfield><subfield code="z">9780774815093</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2009417249</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)228192186</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=382879</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Canadian Electronic Library</subfield><subfield code="b">CELB</subfield><subfield code="n">10348848</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - From the Publisher: Unlike previous books on the history of vegetarianism, Sins of the Flesh examines the history of vegetarianism in its ethical dimensions, from the origins of humanity through to the present.
