Zusammenfassung: | French novelist Marcel Proust made famous "involuntary memory," a peculiar kind of memory that works whether one is willing or not and that gives a transformed recollection of past experience. More than a centruy later, the Proustian notion of involuntary memory has not been fully explored nor its implications understood. By providing clarifying examples taken from Proust's novel and by commenting on them using the work of French philosophers Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Gilles Deleuze, Italian philosopher Mauro Carboneinterprets involuntary memory as the humen faculty providing the involuntary creation of our ideas through the transformation of past experience. This rethinking of the traditional way of conceiving ideas and their genesis as separated from sensible experience as has been done in western thought since Plato allows the author to promote a new theory of knowledge, one which is best exemplified via literature and art much more than philosophy. --Book Jacket |

--Book Jacket</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Proust, Marcel,</subfield><subfield code="d">1871-1922.</subfield><subfield code="t">Du côté de chez Swann.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2014089266</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="630" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Du côté de chez Swann (Proust, Marcel)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Idea (Philosophy)</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85064120</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Intuition.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85067653</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Philosophy, Modern</subfield><subfield code="y">20th century.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85100964</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Idée (Philosophie)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Intuition.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Philosophie</subfield><subfield code="y">20e siècle.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">intuition.</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LITERARY CRITICISM</subfield><subfield code="x">European</subfield><subfield code="x">French.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Idea (Philosophy)</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Intuition</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Philosophy, Modern</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">1900-1999</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic book.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">An unprecedented deformation (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGq3P9qKqMRtmF7WjBTpKd</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Carbone, Mauro, 1956-</subfield><subfield code="s">Deformazione senza precedenti. French novelist Marcel Proust made famous "involuntary memory," a peculiar kind of memory that works whether one is willing or not and that gives a transformed recollection of past experience. --Book Jacket English.
