Zusammenfassung: | Phenomenology or Deconstruction? challenges traditional understandings of the relationship between phenomenology and deconstruction through new readings of the work of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Paul RicÅ₃ur and Jean-Luc Nancy. A constant dialogue with Jacques Derrida's engagement with phenomenological themes provides the impetus to establishing a new understanding of 'being' and 'presence' that exposes significant blindspots inherent in traditional readings of both phenomenology and deconstruction. In reproducing neither a stock phenomenological reaction to deconstruction nor the routine deconstructive reading of phenomenology, Christopher Watkin provides a fresh assessment of the possibilities for the future of phenomenology, along with a new reading of the deconstructive legacy. Through detailed studies of the philosophy of Merleau-Ponty, RicÅ₃ur and Nancy, he shows how a phenomenological tradition much wider and richer than Husserlian or Heideggerean thought alone can take account of Derrida's critique of ontology and yet still hold a commitment to the ontological. This new reading of being and presence fundamentally re-draws our understanding of the relation of deconstruction and phenomenology, and provides the first sustained discussion of the possibilities and problems for any future 'deconstructive phenomenology'. |

This new reading of being and presence fundamentally re-draws our understanding of the relation of deconstruction and phenomenology, and provides the first sustained discussion of the possibilities and problems for any future 'deconstructive phenomenology'.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Merleau-Ponty, Maurice,</subfield><subfield code="d">1908-1961.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Ricur, Paul.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79056642</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Nancy, Jean-Luc.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Merleau-Ponty, Maurice,</subfield><subfield code="d">1908-1961</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJtRKFg8vhf6c3jc97xxDq</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Nancy, Jean-Luc</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJfRxHHGJMxpWDCgCBWbh3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ricur, Paul</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJkT76TffTCqt7KmYCPvpP</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Ontology.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85094833</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Ontologie.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">ontology (metaphysics)</subfield><subfield code="2">aat</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PHILOSOPHY</subfield><subfield code="x">Metaphysics.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PHILOSOPHY</subfield><subfield code="x">Movements</subfield><subfield code="x">Phenomenology.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ontology</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Fenomenologie.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Deconstructie.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Phenomenology or deconstruction? Phenomenology or Deconstruction? challenges traditional understandings of the relationship between phenomenology and deconstruction through new readings of the work of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Paul RicÅ₃ur and Jean-Luc Nancy.
