Zusammenfassung: | How does a person learn a second language? In this provocative book, Marysia Johnson proposes a new model of second language acquisition (SLA)a model that shifts the focus from language competence (the ability to pass a language exam) to language performance (using language competently in real-life contexts). Johnson argues that current SLA theory and research is heavily biased in the direction of the cognitive and experimental scientific tradition. She shows that most models of SLA are linear in nature and subscribe to the conduit metaphor of knowledge transfer: the speaker encodes a message, the hearer decodes the sent message. Such models establish a strict demarcation between learners mental and social processes. Yet the origin of second language acquisition is located not exclusively in the learners mind but also in a dialogical interaction conducted in a variety of sociocultural and institutional settings, says the author. Drawing on Vygotskys sociocultural theory and Bakhtins literary theory, she constructs an alternative framework for second language theory, research, teaching, and testing. This approach directs attention toward the investigation of dynamic and dialectical relationships between the interpersonal (social) plane and the intrapersonal (individual) plane. Johnsons model shifts the focus of SLA away from a narrow emphasis on language competence toward a broader view that encompasses the interaction between language competence and performance. Original and controversial, A Philosophy of Second Language Acquisition offers: an introduction to Vygotskys sociocultural theory and Bakhtins literary theory, both of which support an alternative framework for second language acquisition; an examination of the existing cognitive bias in SLA theory and research; a radically new model of second language acquisition. |

Original and controversial, A Philosophy of Second Language Acquisition offers: an introduction to Vygotskys sociocultural theory and Bakhtins literary theory, both of which support an alternative framework for second language acquisition; an examination of the existing cognitive bias in SLA theory and research; a radically new model of second language acquisition.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Second language acquisition.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh86005959</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Langue seconde</subfield><subfield code="x">Acquisition.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">REFERENCE.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES</subfield><subfield code="x">Alphabets & Writing Systems.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">FOREIGN LANGUAGE STUDY.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES</subfield><subfield code="x">Linguistics</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES</subfield><subfield code="x">Grammar & Punctuation.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES</subfield><subfield code="x">Spelling.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Second language acquisition</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic book.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">A philosophy of second language acquisition (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFFqjGJdj6YcHDPB3rhMpq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Johnson, Marysia, 1958-</subfield><subfield code="t">Philosophy of second language acquisition.</subfield><subfield code="d">New Haven ; London : Yale University Press, ©2004</subfield><subfield code="z">0300100264</subfield><subfield code="z">9780300100266</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2003053549</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)52312563</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Yale language series.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84732131</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=187900</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest Ebook Central</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL3419955</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10169981</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">187900</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">philosophyofseco0000john</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">2548164</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
