Zusammenfassung: | Rochelle Wright provides the first historical overview and analysis of the manner in which Jews and other ethnic outsiders have been depicted in Swedish film from 1930 to the present. Focusing on films produced in Sweden for primarily Swedish audiences, Wright analyzes how the portrayal of the relatively small Jewish minority has evolved over the years. She compares the images of Jews in Swedish film with those of other ethnic subcultures: long-term resident communities such as "tattare "(travelers, an indigenous pariah group often confused with gypsies), Finns, the Sami, and recent immigrant populations such as Greeks, Italians, Turks, and Yugoslavians. Wright s cross-disciplinary approach to interrelated issues of ethnicity and national identity enables her to take advantage of the methodologies of historians and sociologists as well as those of literary and film critics. She bases her study on a detailed analysis of the films, but, by way of comparison, she examines filmscripts and literary sources. She also consults contemporary reviews, interviews with actors and directors, and biographies and memoirs as well as critical discussion among film historians. Wright confronts importantand exceedingly difficultsocial questions. She deals head-on with xenophobia, anti-Semitism, immigration, assimilation, ethnicity, multiculturalism, and the national self-image of Swedes as reflected in their cinema. She also analyzes the manner in which Swedish film represents the persecution of Jews in Nazi-dominated Europe." -- Provided by publisher. |

She also analyzes the manner in which Swedish film represents the persecution of Jews in Nazi-dominated Europe." -- Provided by publisher.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Jews in motion pictures.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85070512</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Minorities in motion pictures.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85085831</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Motion pictures</subfield><subfield code="z">Sweden</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Juifs au cinéma.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Minorités au cinéma.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Cinéma</subfield><subfield code="z">Suède</subfield><subfield code="x">Histoire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">PERFORMING ARTS</subfield><subfield code="x">Film & Video</subfield><subfield code="x">Reference.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Jews in motion pictures</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Minorities in motion pictures</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Motion pictures</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Sweden</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39QbtfRmFKpvRPQrQfjc7kBGB</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Filmkunst.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Joden.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Minderheden.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Beeldvorming.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Film.</subfield><subfield code="2">hilcc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Music, Dance, Drama & Film.</subfield><subfield code="2">hilcc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">History</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Wright, Rochelle, 1950-</subfield><subfield code="t">Visible wall.</subfield><subfield code="d">Carbondale : Southern Illinois University Press, ©1998</subfield><subfield code="z">0809321645</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 97022932</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)37024873</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=11622</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">11622</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">2306804</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
