Summary:The production of a woodcut is divided into three steps: the drawing on the block, the block-carving and the printing. The drawing as a work of art is irreversibly lost in the production process and the printing block can no longer be experienced in its three-dimensionality in the woodcut. With "entropic aesthetics" a new analytical category is offered for these necessary transformational losses.
