CHAPTERS CHAPTER4 FIGURES IN THE ROUND: CARVING FIGURES IN THE ROUND: CONSTRUCTING Students look at some sculptural processes; they Students look at constructed sculptural works - both discuss a number of figurative artists who carve in contemporary artworks and traditional doll-figures. They wood or brick, or model in clay. Students themselves identify and discuss the materials and forms, and consider explore carving: they carve a soap sculpture that is the use of interesting or unexpected combinations. An array considered and fully three-dimensional from all angles of materials is explored by the students, in an assemblage (rather than simply “etched” into a flat side or two- process - through which they discover various joining dimensional surface. techniques, and how to use a range of hand tools. |
