Zusammenfassung: | This book examines three exhibitions of contemporary art held at the Vienna Künstlerhaus during the period of National Socialist rule and shows how each attempted to culturally erase elements anathema to Nazi ideology: the City, the Jewess and fin-de-siècle Vienna. Each of the exhibits was large scale and ambitious, part of a broader attempt to situate Vienna as the cultural capital of the Reich, and each aimed to reshape cultural memory and rewrite history. Applying illuminating theories on memory studies, collective and public memory, and notions of "memoricide," this is the first book in English to focus on visual culture in the period when Austria was erased as a nation and incorporated into the Third Reich as "Ostmark." The organization, content and publications surrounding these three exhibits are explored in depth and set against the larger political changes and dangerous ideologies they reflect. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, museum studies, cultural history, memory studies, art and politics and Holocaust studies |

Conclusion This book examines three exhibitions of contemporary art held at the Vienna Künstlerhaus during the period of National Socialist rule and shows how each attempted to culturally erase elements anathema to Nazi ideology: the City, the Jewess and fin-de-siècle Vienna. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, museum studies, cultural history, memory studies, art and politics and Holocaust studies Schirach, Baldur von 1907-1974 (DE-588)118607804 gnd rswk-swf Künstlerhaus, Gesellschaft Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Österreichs (DE-588)1072523795 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1940-1943 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1938-1945 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1939-1945 gnd rswk-swf bicssc / Museology & heritage studies bicssc / Modern history to 20th century - c 1700 to c 1900 bicssc / Social & political philosophy bicssc / History of art / art & design styles bicssc / Fascism & Nazism bicssc / Second World War bicssc / The Holocaust bicssc / Political campaigning & advertising bicssc / Theory of art bisacsh / ART / Museum Studies bisacsh / ART / Art & Politics Nationalbewusstsein (DE-588)4041282-9 gnd rswk-swf Kunstausstellung (DE-588)4033628-1 gnd rswk-swf Nationalsozialismus (DE-588)4041316-0 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Jugendstil (DE-588)4028939-4 gnd rswk-swf Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 gnd rswk-swf Judentum (DE-588)4114087-4 gnd rswk-swf Kunstpolitik (DE-588)4033667-0 gnd rswk-swf Kulturpolitik (DE-588)4033581-1 gnd rswk-swf Ausstellung (DE-588)4129601-1 gnd rswk-swf Wien (DE-588)4066009-6 gnd rswk-swf Österreich (DE-588)4043271-3 gnd rswk-swf Künstlerhaus, Gesellschaft Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Österreichs (DE-588)1072523795 b Ausstellung (DE-588)4129601-1 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Jugendstil (DE-588)4028939-4 s Judentum (DE-588)4114087-4 s Nationalsozialismus (DE-588)4041316-0 s Geschichte 1939-1945 z DE-604 Schirach, Baldur von 1907-1974 (DE-588)118607804 p Kulturpolitik (DE-588)4033581-1 s Österreich (DE-588)4043271-3 g Nationalbewusstsein (DE-588)4041282-9 s Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 s Wien (DE-588)4066009-6 g Kunstpolitik (DE-588)4033667-0 s Kunstausstellung (DE-588)4033628-1 s Geschichte 1940-1943 z Geschichte 1938-1945 z Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-03-240587-2 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-032-40588-9 https://doi.org/10.4324/9781003353782 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
