Zusammenfassung: | "The story of how America's public lands-our city parks, national forests, and wilderness areas-can be traced to a few conservation pioneers and protegees who shaped policy and advocated for open spaces. Some, like Frederick Law Olmsted and Gifford Pinchot, are well known, while others have never been given their due. Jeffrey Ryan covers the nearly one hundred-year period between 1865 (when Olmsted contributed to the creation of Yosemite as a park and created its management plan) to the signing of the Wilderness Act of 1964. Olmsted influenced Pinchot, who became the first head of the National Forest Service, and in turn, Pinchot hired the foresters who became the founders of The Wilderness Society and creators of the Wilderness Act itself. This history emphasizes the cast of characters-among them Theodore Roosevelt, Bob Marshall, Benton MacKaye, Aldo Leopold, and Howard Zahniser-and provides context for their decisions and the political and economic factors that contributed to the triumphs and pitfalls in the quest to protect public lands. In researching the book, Ryan traveled to the places where these crusaders lived, worked, and were inspired to take up the cause to make public lands accessible to all"-- |

Ryan Essex, Connecticut ; Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania Stackpole Books [2022] ©2022 IX, 221 Seiten Illustrationen, Karten 24 cm txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier "The story of how America's public lands-our city parks, national forests, and wilderness areas-can be traced to a few conservation pioneers and protegees who shaped policy and advocated for open spaces. In researching the book, Ryan traveled to the places where these crusaders lived, worked, and were inspired to take up the cause to make public lands accessible to all"-- Landschaftsschutz (DE-588)1089011881 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1865-1964 gnd rswk-swf Naturschutzgebiet (DE-588)4041414-0 gnd rswk-swf Nationalpark (DE-588)4075220-3 gnd rswk-swf Umweltpolitik (DE-588)4078523-3 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Public lands / United States / History Public lands United States History USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Landschaftsschutz (DE-588)1089011881 b Naturschutzgebiet (DE-588)4041414-0 s Nationalpark (DE-588)4075220-3 s Umweltpolitik (DE-588)4078523-3 s Geschichte 1865-1964 z DE-604 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe 9780811771672 Digitalisierung Deutsches Museum application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=034303013&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
