Zusammenfassung:In this commemorative exhibition - 20 years of the institution - curators Paulo Miyada and Priscyla Gomes dove into more than 60 years of the artist's career to select works that allude to the relationships between body, space and movement. In "Tomie Ohtake Dançante" (Tomie Ohtake is Dancing), the curatorial duo investigates whether the painting dances, or whether it is possible to dance with the painting. "Words such as movement, gesture, matter, rhythm, body, space, displacement, score and choreography, even before being articulated in a verbal sentence, were mixed in the hypothesis that in the work of Tomie Ohtake dances, that Tomie is dancing". With paintings produced from the 1970s to 2010, and in a wide space, hanging planes of the ceiling follow each other at a pace of different heights, widths and distances. This pictorial environment places the visitor in displacement between images that are in themselves suggestive of movement and welcomes a large-scale painting - 10 meters long - that Tomie conceived for the inauguration of the Institute and only now returns to be exhibited. In addition to the selection of works, to prepare the exhibition the curators talked over six months with choreographers of different profiles and trajectories, able to immerse themselves in the plastic production of Ohtake. During this period, the guests conceived works in dialogue with Tomie's house and production and held open rehearsals in the artist's house-studio, sharing the respective processes with the public. These pieces will be part of the exhibition with the intention now of occupying and activating different spaces of the Tomie Ohtake Institute.
