Attention is paid to The Special Operations Executive (SOE), The Office of Strategic Services (OSS), predecessor of the CIA, the Soviet SMERSH (counter-intelligence agencies in the Red Army) and the German Abwehr. The initiatives of the foreign intelligence agencies, which pursue the interests of their countries, the way in which the Bulgarian intelligence and counterintelligence reacts to them is examined. The activities of the diplomatic missions in Bulgaria and the personal characteristics of individual agents are also analyzed.
