Summary:Today, when land records management is regarded as one of the indices of a nation's developmental status, India is in the midst of its land records modernisation programme which is the world's largest e-governance exercise and India's first successful e-governance implementation for the common man. This book studies the land records modernisation programme in India and how it has modernised management of land records, minimised the scope of land disputes, enhanced transparency in the land records maintenance system, and facilitated moving towards guaranteed conclusive titles to immovable properties in the country. By looking at the progress of initiatives in the states of Karnataka and Odisha, this book argues that the computerisation of the land records programme cannot be understood or implemented in isolation from the specific political and economic context of the reform process
