Zusammenfassung:This thesis examines Chinese contemporary films, including Fifth Generation, urban, and Sixth Generation, in their social and historical context, investigating themes, ideologies, gender relationships, and Western influence. The strategy included a review of scholarly literature on Chinese cinema, especially the works of Chris Berry, George Semsel, Rey Chow, Zhang Yingjin, and Sheldon Lu. This study employed historical and critical methods to present a number of different theoretical approaches: postmodernism, orientalism, (auto) ethnography theory, postcolonial theory, feminism, and post socialism. This thesis finally suggests Sixth Generation filmmakers emerged as a special cultural phenomenon, with gradual movement from margin to center, and increased involvement with production of mainstream films and television programs. Their styles and specialized cultural spirits powerfully reconfigured the appearance of mainstream media productions.
