But the contemporary philosophical reception of skepticism, whether ancient or modern, seems to have largely forgotten, and left underexplored, its preeminent place in the history of philosophy. This is no doubt partly due to our living in an age of science, for the typical scientific attitude to skepticism is that it is an "overreaction" (Quine 1981: 473-475, 475), as if it could be relatively easily tamed by a due respect for the sober discoveries and technological advances of the sciences; particularly the natural sciences"--
