Summary:Every summer since 1964, the capital of Valais organizes the International Violin Festival, an event begun by the renowned violinist Tibor Varga that supports young artists from around the world. To celebrate its 35th year, the festival has invited the artist Jordi Savall. Spanish musician, violist, cellist, choir director and orchestral conductor, he is known as a performer in repertoires extending from medieval to 19th century music. He is also known for his collaborations with the world of cinema. In 1991, his work with the French director Alain Corneau in Tous les matins du monde contributed to a resurgence in interest for baroque music and introducing a wider public to the viola da gamba.
