Zusammenfassung:In 2012, conductor Philippe Herreweghe recorded the famous Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. On the occasion, Philippe Herreweghe worked with outstanding soloists and the Collegium Vocale Gent, a musical ensemble founded in 1970 by Philippe Herreweghe. Johann Sebastian Bach composed his Christmas Oratorio in 1734. It is a masterpiece of the Baroque period. It comprises six cantatas inspired by the Gospels according to St. Luke and St. Matthew. It is made up of recitatives interspersed with arias and choruses. It relates the story of Jesus's birth to the Adoration of the Magi. Bach composed several other great oratorios, including the Ascension Oratorio, the Easter Oratorio, St Matthew Passion, St John Passion. The conductor, the chorus, the soloists and the orchestra gave a masterful rendition of this Christmas Oratorio. Philippe Herreweghe's direction is pure and simple. The text's interpretation is clear and the music is virtuoso. The Collegium Vocale Gent is a music ensemble composed of young musicians united in their desire to extend the new principles of interpretation of baroque music to vocal music. This authentic approach focuses on the text and on rhetoric in order to get a perfectly enunciated way of speaking. It has enabled the Collegium Vocale Gent to gain international recognition. Philippe Herreweghe, who is always looking for new musical challenges, is the founder of the Collegium Vocale Gent. He has founded several other musical ensembles: the Ensemble Vocal Européen, which is specialized in Renaissance's polyphony, and the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées that specializes in music from the period from 1750 to the early twentieth century, performed on instruments from the composer's lifetime. All were entrusted with the same mission: to give a fair and solid interpretation. Mission accomplished!
