Summary:Daniel Barenboim performs works for piano solo by Frederic Chopin in Warsaw on the occasion of the 200th birthday of the Polish composer. Frederic Chopin's has left an infinite number of masterworks for the piano. His sonatas, mazurkas, waltzes, nocturnes, polonaises, études, impromptus, scherzos, and preludes have accompanied music lovers ever since their publications in the first half of the 19th century. One of the most iconic features of Chopin's style is the gentleness of his melodic lines which bear witness of the influence exerted by THE bel canto singing tradition on the Polish composer. Stemming from the Italian opera, the bel canto is indeed characterized by the gentleness of its melodies and the use of a delicate technique of ornamentation. Chopin transposed brilliantly these features for the piano, giving thus to his pieces an inimitable tone. The great pianist Daniel Barenboim performs here some of Chopin's masterworks on the eve of the 200th birthday of the Polish composer
