Summary The author gives the enthusiasts of campanology another book entitled Musica campanarum (Music of bells). From the history of research on ancient bells. It contains studies and materials devoted to historical campanology, which has been one of the author s leading research interests for many years. The results of the campanological research were presented in three published books devoted to old bells: Inskrypcje na dzwonach gotyckich w Prusach. Studium z epigrafiki kampanologicznej (Inscriptions on Gothic bells in Prussia. A study in campanological epigraphy), Gdańsk 2006; Tubae Dei. Studia kampanologiczne (Tubae Dei. Campanological Studies), Gdańsk 2006; Vocor Augustinus. Zabytki dawnej kultury religijnej w Piasecznie (Vocor Augustinus. Monuments of old religious culture in Piaseczno), Grajewo 2015. The seven articles included in this book were mostly published in post-conference mate rials of national and international campanological and epigraphic symposia. The first article is entitled “Średniowieczne dzwoneczki pielgrzymie i dekoracyjne odkryte w miastach Pomorza Nadwiślańskiego” (Medieval pilgrim bells and decorative bells discovered in the cities of Pomeranian Vistula). It is devoted to ancient microcampanology objects. This work was written on the basis of a paper delivered at a nationwide conference devoted to foundry in Poland in Toruń in 2006. The next, extensive article entitled “Dawne dzwony w kościołach klasz tornych Pomorza Nadwiślańskiego” (The old bells in the monastic churches of the Vistula Pomeranian Voivodeship) was devoted to the Pomeranian
monastic campanology. Its basis is an extended paper delivered at an inter national scientific conference entitled: “Klasztor i muzyka od średniowiecza
172 Summary do czasów współczesnych” (Monastery and music from the Middle Ages to the present day), which took place at the monastery of Pauline Fathers at Jasna Góra in Częstochowa in 2015. The third article in this book, Gustav Seipelt’s musicological expertise in the portfolio Die musikalische Untersuchung der Glocken (1917-1918), belonging to the Schloßbauverwaltung Marienburg archival group, is the Pol ish version of the presented paper entitled “Музыкологические экспертизы Густава Сеипельта (Gustav Seipelt) в собрании musikalische Die Unter suchung der Glocken (1917-1918), принадлежащем к архивному сбору Schloßbauverwaltung Marienburg”, at the international congress in Minsk “500 gadou belaruskogo knigadrukavania” (Nacyanalnaia Bibliatieka Belarusi, 2017). The fourth article Ό historii dzwonów kościelnych i ich znaczeniu jako instrumentów muzycznych w świetle prekursorskich w Polsce opracowań ks. Jana Wiśniewskiego (1891-1939)” (On the history of church bells and their significance as musical instruments in the light of the pioneering works in Poland by Rev. Jan Wiśniewski [1891-1939]) is based on the paper pre sented at the international campanological conference in Kiwerce, Ukraine, organized by the Museum of Bells in Lutsk in 2017. Another article entitled “Prałat Florian Oberchristl i jego fundamentalna książka o kampanologii diecezji Linz z 1941 roku” (Prelate Florian Oberchristl and his fundamental book on the campanology of the Diocese of Linz from 1941) is based the paper presented at the 2018 international symposium on contemporary campanology in Supraśl.
The issue of the Felczyński bell foundries offers another, extremely inter esting one due to patriotic accents, the article entitled “Patriotyczne teksty i sceny na dzwonach w obiektach sakralnych na terytorium II Rzeczypospo litej w świetle druków reklamowych odlewni Braci Pełczyńskich i wybranej karty pocztowej” (Patriotic texts and scenes on bells in sacred buildings in the territory of the Second Polish Republic in the light of advertisements of the Felczyński Brothers’ foundry and a selected postcard), published in Roczniki Teologiczne edited by the Catholic University of Lublin (Lublin 2014).
173 The last article introduced to the book Musica campanarum is the version of the paper entitled “Inskrypcje na dzwonkach rowerowych. Małe studium z epigrafiki mikrokampanologicznej” (Inscriptions on bicycle bells. A small study of microcampanological epigraphy) presented at an epigraphic con ference in Zielona Góra in 2014. Detailed information on the publication of the presented studies and campanological materials is provided in the bibliographic note at the end of the publication. The author of this book is convinced that the studies and materials that complete it will familiarize readers with the subject of broadly understood historical campanology. Undoubtedly, they provide knowledge about bells, bells and bells functioning in the culture of ancient societies, as well as musicological expertise and the figures of outstanding campanologists. Moreover, according to the author, the presented studies and materials may influence the initiation of further research on the former material and spiritual culture in the field of recognizing ancient bells.
