COVID-19, the Australia bushfires, and other global threats serve as vivid reminders that human and nonhuman fates are increasingly linked. Human use of nonhuman animals contributes to pandemics, climate change, and other global threats which, in turn, contribute to biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, and nonhuman suffering. In this book, Jeff Sebo argues that we should include animals in health and environmental policy, by reducing our use of animals as part of our pandemic and climate change mitigation efforts and increasing our support for animals as part of our adaptation efforts. Applying and extending frameworks such as One Health and the Green New Deal, Sebo calls for reducing support for factory farming, deforestation, and the wildlife trade; increasing support for humane, healthful, and sustainable alternatives; and considering human and nonhuman needs holistically. He also considers connections with issues such as education, employment, infrastructure, moral status, political status, and population ethics. In all cases, he shows that these issues are both important and complex, and that we should neither underestimate our responsibilities because of our limitations nor underestimate our limitations because of our responsibilities.
(Continued from front flap) Both an urgent call to action and a survey of what ethical and effective action requires, Saving Animals, Saving Ourselves is an invaluable resource for scholars, advocates, policymakers, and anyone interested in what kind of world we should attempt to build and how. |

Human use of nonhuman animals contributes to pandemics, climate change, and other global threats which, in turn, contribute to biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, and nonhuman suffering. Both an urgent call to action and a survey of what ethical and effective action will require, this book will be useful for scholars, advocates, policy-makers, and anyone interested in what kind of world we should attempt to build and how Klimaänderung (DE-588)4164199-1 gnd rswk-swf Tierschutz (DE-588)4060131-6 gnd rswk-swf Umweltschutz (DE-588)4061644-7 gnd rswk-swf Tierethik (DE-588)4194901-8 gnd rswk-swf Animal ecology Animal welfare / Moral and ethical aspects Animal populations / Climatic factors Disasters Epidemics / Environmental aspects Tierschutz (DE-588)4060131-6 s Umweltschutz (DE-588)4061644-7 s Klimaänderung (DE-588)4164199-1 s Tierethik (DE-588)4194901-8 s DE-604 9780190861018 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, EPUB 9780190861032 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, PDF 9780190861025 Digitalisierung UB Augsburg - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033623234&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung UB Augsburg - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033623234&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Klappentext |
