Bibliography Internet Resources Note: Some of the sites listed below are in Russian, but there are online translating tools that should allow you to read them, if you cannot read Russian. vvs.hobbyvista.com: Modelling the Aircraft of the Soviet WS—this was a worthwhile site for making WS models. It contains some useful information, although its articles on colour are controversial and should not be taken for gospel. This site is now moribund and the forum portion is no longer functioning, but the reference articles are still up as of the time of writing (2021). www.airaces.ru: a very useful Russian language site that contains much information about Soviet aeroplanes, including production figures. www.airfield.narod.ru: This site is dedicated to the Yakovlev OKB. Although not just limited to Yakovlev’s wartime fighters, it contains some good information about these aircraft. www.airpages.ru: This site is not only about Soviet aircraft, but as a Russian site it does contain a great deal of material about Soviet aeroplanes of the Second World War. It has both a Russian language and an English language option, but the Russian language option is more exhaustive in its coverage, although the English language version is expanding. The English language version contains some interesting information, such as drawings, photographs, and performance figures (as does the Russian language version). The site contains primary source materials, such as wartime orders and reports. A very useful site. www.airwar.ru: An excellent resource for aviation-related material of all eras, and not just
for Soviet aircraft. It has much textual information on Great Patriotic War fighters, and also has many plans, drawings, and photographs of these aircraft. In Russian, although an incomplete English version is available. www.arcforums.com: Not specifically for the WS, but contains threads and posts regarding WS aircraft. www.britmodeller.com: A good site for modelling in general, containing some threads and posts concerning Soviet aircraft, some by this very author. www.iremember.ru: A site that has interviews with veterans of the Great Patriotic War. The interviews are available in both Russian and English. This site is recommended not just for aviation historians, but also for anyone interested in the experiences of Soviet military men and women during the Great Patriotic War. www.massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/: An excellent website for all things WS and run by the illustrator of my books on the 11-2 Shturmovik and wartime
Bibliography 37З Lavochkin fighters, Massimo Tessitori. Highly recommended for all those interested in Soviet Great Patriotic War aircraft and has accurate representations of the colour schemes that they wore. This site should also be of great interest for the plastic modeller of WS aeroplanes. It includes low-resolution versions of some of the colour profiles in this book. It has an excellent section on the MiG-3, which is not surprising as Mr. Tessitori wrote a book on this aircraft. www.redbanner.co.uk: The successor site to Modelling the Aircraft of the Soviet WS. The same comments about the old site generally apply to this site. www.ScaleModels.ru: A very good site for reference material on WS aircraft, including the Soviet wartime fighters and kits. In Russian with automatic English translation available (with all the interesting translation artefacts and peculiarities that entails).
