Graphteal displays of data are all around us, from performance indicators on the job to election trackers on the news to traffic maps on the road. But few of us have received training or instruction in how to actually read and interpret them. How many times have we been misled simply because we aren’t aware of the pitfalls to avoid? Learning to See Data will teach you the different ways that data can be encoded in graphical form, and it will give you a deeper understanding of the way the human visual system interprets these encodings. You will also team about the most common chart types, and the situations in which they are most appropriate. This book will turn you into a more fluent chart reader - something we all need to become. BEN JONES is the Founder and CEO of Data Literacy, LLC, a company that’s on a mission to help people speak the language of data. He’s also the author of Avoiding Data Pitfalls and Data Literacy Fundamentals. Ben teaches data visualization at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. With over 15 years of experience teaching and training students in both a corporate and an academic setting, Ben has leamed how to impart the basic concepts of data literacy, and he enthusiastically shares that knowledge in this book.
