Item Description:The subject of the scientific analysis in the present book is the Bulgarian imperative – the only subjective modal grammeme which has not been examined in a separate monographic study. The main purpose of the author is to find a plausible answer to some of the most complex problems associated with the semantic meaning of this grammeme, with the specifics of its formal expression, its relation to the other grammaticalised meanings of the Bulgarian verb, its usage in various functional styles, as well as to compare it to the imperative paradigms in the other Slavic languages and to thoroughly describe the whole scale of alternative means for expressing volition within the periphery of modality (lexical, morphological, syntactic, etc.)
