| Zusammenfassung: | Georg III. von Anhalt (1507-1553) ist für die Geschichte der Reformation in Mitteldeutschland von herausragender Bedeutung: Gleichzeitig regierender Fürst und hochrangiger Kleriker führte er 1534 in Anhalt-Dessau die Reformation ein, hatte Einfluss auf die Einführung der Reformation in Brandenburg ab 1539 und wirkte ab 1544 als evangelischer Bischof in Merseburg. Er verkörperte einen eigenständigen Typus mitteldeutscher Reformation, der besonders stark an der kirchlichen Tradition orientiert war und sich vorschnellen konfessionellen Festlegungen entzog. Nicht zuletzt deshalb wurde Georg nach seinem Tod zur Galionsfigur der Anhaltischen Kirche im konfessionellen Zeitalter. Mit diesem Band werden erstmals zentrale theologische Schriften Georgs kritisch ediert vorgelegt.
