Zusammenfassung: | Around the world today, border walls and nationalisms are on the rise as people express desires to "take back" sovereignty. This collection uses ethnographic research in disputed and exceptional places to study sovereignty claims from the ground up. While it might immediately seem that citizens desire a stronger state, the cases of compromised, contested, or failed sovereignty in this volume point instead to political imaginations beyond the state form. Authors use cases from Spain to Afghanistan, Western Sahara to Taiwan, to show how calls to take back control or to bring back order are best understood as longings for sovereign agency. By paying close ethnographic attention to these desires and their consequences, The Everyday Lives of Sovereignty offers a new way to understand why these yearnings have such profound political resonance in a globally interconnected world |

By paying close ethnographic attention to these desires and their consequences, The Everyday Lives of Sovereignty offers a new way to understand why these yearnings have such profound political resonance in a globally interconnected world Anthropology International Studies Political Science & Political History POLITICAL SCIENCE / Constitutions bisacsh Sovereignty Souveränität (DE-588)4132367-1 gnd rswk-swf Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 gnd rswk-swf Politische Anthropologie (DE-588)4293325-0 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 2015 Nikosia gnd-content Souveränität (DE-588)4132367-1 s Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 s Politische Anthropologie (DE-588)4293325-0 s DE-604 Bryant, Rebecca (DE-588)1146590458 edt Reeves, Madeleine (DE-588)1016266871 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-5017-5573-6 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-5017-5574-3 |
