Zusammenfassung: | The concepts of purity and contamination preoccupied early modern Europeans fundamentally, structuring virtually every aspect of their lives, not least how they created and experienced works of art and the built environment. In an era that saw a great number of objects and people in motion, the meteoric rise of new artistic and building technologies, and religious upheaval exert new pressures on art and its institutions, anxieties about the pure and the contaminated - distinctions between the clean and unclean, sameness and difference, self and other, organization and its absence - took on heightened importance. In this series of geographically and methodologically wide-ranging essays, thirteen leading historians of art and architecture grapple with the complex ways that early modern actors negotiated these concerns, covering topics as diverse as Michelangelo's unfinished sculptures, Venetian plague hospitals, Spanish-Muslim tapestries, and emergency currency. The resulting volume offers surprising new insights into the period and into the modern disciplinary routines of art and architectural history |

spelling | Contamination and purity in early modern art and architecture edited by Lauren Jacobi and Daniel M. Zolli Amsterdam Amsterdam University Press 2021 1 Online-Ressource (366 Seiten) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Visual and material culture, 1300-1700 Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 28 May 2021) The concepts of purity and contamination preoccupied early modern Europeans fundamentally, structuring virtually every aspect of their lives, not least how they created and experienced works of art and the built environment. The resulting volume offers surprising new insights into the period and into the modern disciplinary routines of art and architectural history Geschichte 1350-1650 gnd rswk-swf Art, European Art, Renaissance Architecture, European Architecture, Renaissance Purity (Philosophy) Contamination (Psychology) Architektur (DE-588)4002851-3 gnd rswk-swf Material (DE-588)4169078-3 gnd rswk-swf Frömmigkeit (DE-588)4018672-6 gnd rswk-swf Verschmutzung (DE-588)4063158-8 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Reinheit (DE-588)4136148-9 gnd rswk-swf Hispanoamerika (DE-588)4194079-9 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 01.10.2016 Cambridge, Mass. gnd-content (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Hispanoamerika (DE-588)4194079-9 g Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Material (DE-588)4169078-3 s Frömmigkeit (DE-588)4018672-6 s Geschichte 1350-1650 z DE-604 Architektur (DE-588)4002851-3 s Reinheit (DE-588)4136148-9 s Verschmutzung (DE-588)4063158-8 s Jacobi, Lauren 1975- (DE-588)1193289017 edt Zolli, Daniel M. ca. 20./21.
