Zusammenfassung: | This book is the sequel to Fighting Europe's Unemployment in the 1990s, the collection of papers presented at the Salzburg Symposium of the Egon-Sohmen-Foundation in 1994. Though the problem of un employment was urgent already then, it has not found a practical solution in the meantime, and even intellectually it remains somewhat of a mystery. A clue is offered by the contrast with the United States: they have the working poor; we, on the old continent, have the welfare recipients. This brings the relationship between unemployment and the welfare state to the fore. On closer inspection, however, the matter appears to be much more complicated than the transatlantic contrast suggests. Consider only that the welfare state and what is called "social policy" have a long tradition in Europe. They obviously did not pre vent or noticeably hamper the decline in unemployment in the 1950s and the emergence of full employment in the 1960s. This leaves room for various conjectures. Does the welfare state matter only after a long time lag or after it has grown too fast or too much beyond a critical size? Is it the welfare state per se that is harmful to employment or do its harmful effects arise only under certain conditions, e. g |

spelling | Reforming the Welfare State edited by Herbert Giersch This book was produced with financial support of the Egon-Sohmen-Foundation 1st ed. 1997 Berlin, Heidelberg Springer Berlin Heidelberg 1997 1 Online-Ressource (X, 332 p) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier This book is the sequel to Fighting Europe's Unemployment in the 1990s, the collection of papers presented at the Salzburg Symposium of the Egon-Sohmen-Foundation in 1994. Is it the welfare state per se that is harmful to employment or do its harmful effects arise only under certain conditions, e. g Economics, general Economics Management science Arbeitslosigkeit (DE-588)4002730-2 gnd rswk-swf Privatversicherung (DE-588)4076356-0 gnd rswk-swf Reformpolitik (DE-588)4048960-7 gnd rswk-swf Wohlfahrtsstaat (DE-588)4117641-8 gnd rswk-swf Reform (DE-588)4115716-3 gnd rswk-swf Einkommensteuer (DE-588)4013895-1 gnd rswk-swf Soziale Sicherheit (DE-588)4055732-7 gnd rswk-swf Gesundheitswesen (DE-588)4020775-4 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 1995 Kiel gnd-content (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 1995 Prag gnd-content Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Wohlfahrtsstaat (DE-588)4117641-8 s DE-604 Reform (DE-588)4115716-3 s Reformpolitik (DE-588)4048960-7 s Soziale Sicherheit (DE-588)4055732-7 s Privatversicherung (DE-588)4076356-0 s Arbeitslosigkeit (DE-588)4002730-2 s Einkommensteuer (DE-588)4013895-1 s Gesundheitswesen (DE-588)4020775-4 s Giersch, Herbert edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783642644313 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783540614937 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783642604980 https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-60497-3 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
