Zusammenfassung: | Proposing a methodology that brings feminist theories of embodiment to bear on the Iranian literary and cinematic tradition, this study examines temporary marriage in Iran, not just as an institution but also as a set of practices, identities and meanings that have transformed over the course of the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries. Based on analysis of novels and short stories from the Pahlavi era, and cinematic works produced after the Islamic Revolution, Claudia Yaghoobi looks at the representation of the sigheh women, or those who entered into temporary marriages. Each work reflects the manner in which the practice of sigheh impacts women by calling into question how sexuality works as a form of political analysis and power, revealing how a sigheh woman's sexual bodily autonomy is used as ammunition against what governments deem inappropriate gendered expression. While focusing mainly on modern Iranian cultural productions, Yaghoobi moves beyond the literary and cinematic realms to offer an in-depth examination of this controversial social institution which has been the subject of disdain for many Iranian feminists and captured the imagination of many Western observers |

While focusing mainly on modern Iranian cultural productions, Yaghoobi moves beyond the literary and cinematic realms to offer an in-depth examination of this controversial social institution which has been the subject of disdain for many Iranian feminists and captured the imagination of many Western observers Geschichte 1925-2020 gnd rswk-swf Temporary marriage in literature Persian fiction 20th century History and criticism Temporary marriage in motion pictures Motion pictures Iran History and criticism Mut'a (DE-588)4238076-5 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Geschlechterforschung (DE-588)4482930-9 gnd rswk-swf Mut'a Motiv (DE-588)1216725454 gnd rswk-swf Film (DE-588)4017102-4 gnd rswk-swf Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 gnd rswk-swf Selbstbestimmung (DE-588)4135889-2 gnd rswk-swf Iran (DE-588)4027653-3 gnd rswk-swf Iran (DE-588)4027653-3 g Mut'a (DE-588)4238076-5 s Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 s Selbstbestimmung (DE-588)4135889-2 s Geschlechterforschung (DE-588)4482930-9 s Geschichte 1925-2020 z DE-188 Mut'a Motiv (DE-588)1216725454 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Film (DE-588)4017102-4 s Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-10848-810-5 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-108-73843-9 The global Middle East 12 (DE-604)BV046634277 12 https://doi.org/10.1017/9781108768948 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
