Zusammenfassung: | There is a Canadian myth about the Loyalists who left the United States after the American Revolution for Canada. The myth says they were white, upper-class citizens devoted to British ideals, transplanting the best of colonial American society to British North America. In reality, more than 10 per cent of the Loyalists who came to the Maritime provinces were black and had been slaves. The Black Loyalists tells the story of one such group who came to Nova Scotia, but didn't stay. James Walker documents their experience in Canada, following them across the Atlantic as they became part of a unique colonial experiment in Sierra Leone |

Aug 2019) There is a Canadian myth about the Loyalists who left the United States after the American Revolution for Canada. James Walker documents their experience in Canada, following them across the Atlantic as they became part of a unique colonial experiment in Sierra Leone In English Geschichte 1785-1870 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1783-1791 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1787-1870 gnd rswk-swf HISTORY / Canada / General bisacsh African American loyalists Nova Scotia African American loyalists Sierra Leone African Americans Colonization Nova Scotia History 18th century African Americans Colonization Sierra Leone History 18th century Blacks Legal status, laws, etc Ontario History Blacks Ontario Social conditions Discrimination in criminal justice administration Ontario History Race discrimination Ontario History Schwarze (DE-588)4116433-7 gnd rswk-swf Einwanderung (DE-588)4013960-8 gnd rswk-swf Loyalisten (DE-588)4168193-9 gnd rswk-swf Nova Scotia (DE-588)4042713-4 gnd rswk-swf Sierra Leone (DE-588)4054908-2 gnd rswk-swf Nova Scotia (DE-588)4042713-4 g Loyalisten (DE-588)4168193-9 s Schwarze (DE-588)4116433-7 s Einwanderung (DE-588)4013960-8 s Geschichte 1783-1791 z 1\p DE-604 Sierra Leone (DE-588)4054908-2 g Geschichte 1785-1870 z 2\p DE-604 Geschichte 1787-1870 z 3\p DE-604 https://doi.org/10.3138/9781442671447 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
