Zusammenfassung: | Workfare: Ideology for a New Under-Class reveals the double standards of Neo-Liberal "newspeak." The federal government spends almost the same amount of money on tax exemptions for RRSP deductions as federal and provincial governments combined spend on welfare. But, no one asks if people receiving RRSP deductions are "truly needy." In addition to the myths, this book explores the reality of workfare, examining programs from across Canada, and comparing the experience in the United States. Workfare is central to the tenets of the so-called common sense revolution. The contributors show that, in fact, workfare measures have not been effective in getting people back to work, especially in the long term. Governments continue to implement workfare programs even when it is clear that they have not, and will not, achieve their stated ends. The book shows how workfare masks a punitive ideology particular to the post-Fordist, neo-Liberal state |

spelling | Workfare Ideology for a New Under-class Eric Shragge Toronto University of Toronto Press [2019] © 1997 1 online resource txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Description based on online resource; title from PDF title page (publisher's Web site, viewed 28. Aug 2019) Workfare: Ideology for a New Under-Class reveals the double standards of Neo-Liberal "newspeak." The federal government spends almost the same amount of money on tax exemptions for RRSP deductions as federal and provincial governments combined spend on welfare. The book shows how workfare masks a punitive ideology particular to the post-Fordist, neo-Liberal state In English Coursebook POLITICAL SCIENCE / World / Canadian bisacsh Sozialpolitik (DE-588)4055879-4 gnd rswk-swf Beschäftigung (DE-588)4005979-0 gnd rswk-swf Sozialhilfeempfänger (DE-588)4201940-0 gnd rswk-swf Beschäftigungspolitik (DE-588)4005982-0 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Kanada (DE-588)4029456-0 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Kanada (DE-588)4029456-0 g Sozialpolitik (DE-588)4055879-4 s Beschäftigungspolitik (DE-588)4005982-0 s 2\p DE-604 Sozialhilfeempfänger (DE-588)4201940-0 s Beschäftigung (DE-588)4005979-0 s 3\p DE-604 USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g 4\p DE-604 5\p DE-604 Shragge, Eric edt https://doi.org/10.3138/9781442603110 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
