Zusammenfassung: | "Between 1918 and 1921 an estimated 100,000 Jewish people were killed, maimed or tortured in pogroms in Ukraine. Hundreds of Jewish communities were burned to the ground and hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless and destitute, including orphaned children. A number of groups were responsible for these brutal attacks, including the Volunteer Army, a faction of the Russian White Army. The Pogroms in Ukraine, 1918-19: Prelude to the Holocaust is a vivid and horrifying account of the atrocities committed by the Volunteer Army, written by Nokhem Shtif, an eminent Yiddish linguist and social activist who joined the relief efforts on behalf of the pogrom survivors in Kiev. Shtif's testimony, published in 1923, was born from his encounters there and from the weighty archive of documentation amassed by the relief workers. This was one of the earliest efforts to systematically record human rights atrocities on a mass scale. Originally written in Yiddish and here skillfully translated and introduced by Maurice Wolfthal, The Pogroms in Ukraine, 1918-19 brings to light a terrible and historically neglected series of persecutions that foreshadowed the Holocaust by twenty years. It is essential reading for academics and students in the fields of human rights, Jewish studies, Russian and Soviet studies, and Ukraine studies."--Publisher's website |

It is essential reading for academics and students in the fields of human rights, Jewish studies, Russian and Soviet studies, and Ukraine studies."--Publisher's spelling | Shtif, Nokhem 1879-1933 Verfasser (DE-588)172721458 aut Pogromen in Uḳrayne (di tsayṭ fun der frayṿiliger armey, 1923) The pogroms in Ukraine, 1918-19 prelude to the Holocaust by Nokhem Shtif ; translated and introduced by Maurice Wolfthal Cambridge, UK Open Book Publishers [2019] xi, 101 Seiten Illustrationen, Karte txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier "Between 1918 and 1921 an estimated 100,000 Jewish people were killed, maimed or tortured in pogroms in Ukraine. It is essential reading for academics and students in the fields of human rights, Jewish studies, Russian and Soviet studies, and Ukraine studies."--Publisher's website CC BY 4.0 Lizenzangabe in der Ressource http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ cc Ressource: https://doi.org/10.11647/OBP.0176. - Gesichtet: 2023-04-19 Geschichte 1918-1919 gnd rswk-swf Juifs Persécutions 20th century history: c 1900 to c 2000 Genocide & ethnic cleansing Jewish studies Jews Jews Persecutions Pogroms Jews Ukraine Pogroms Ukraine Juden (DE-588)4028808-0 gnd rswk-swf Weißgardisten (DE-588)4351304-9 gnd rswk-swf Pogrom (DE-588)4137649-3 gnd rswk-swf Ukraine (DE-588)4061496-7 gnd rswk-swf Jewish communities Jewish people Nokhem Schtif Russian White Army Ukraine Volunteer Army Yiddish Yiddish linguist Ukraine / History / Revolution, 1917-1921 Ukraine / Histoire / 1917-1921 (Révolution) Electronic books History Ukraine (DE-588)4061496-7 g Weißgardisten (DE-588)4351304-9 s Pogrom (DE-588)4137649-3 s Juden (DE-588)4028808-0 s Geschichte 1918-1919 z DE-604 Wolfthal, Maurice (DE-588)1170915345 trl win Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, EPUB 10.11647/OBP.0176 978-1-78374-747-4 Erscheit auch als Online-Ausgabe, MOBI 10.11647/OBP.0176 978-1-78374-748-1 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, XML 10.11647/OBP.0176 978-1-78374-749-8 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, HTML 10.11647/OBP.0176 978-1-80064-590-5 https://link.bsb-muenchen.de/BV045953968 Resolving-System kostenfrei Volltext https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=2175968 Verlag kostenfrei Volltext https://doi.org/10.11647/OBP.0176 Resolving-System kostenfrei Volltext https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/56481 Verlag kostenfrei Volltext Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=031335997&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=031335997&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Register // Gemischte Register |
