Zusammenfassung: | How remarkable changes in ancient Greek pottery reveal the transformation of classical Greek cultureWhy did soldiers stop fighting, athletes stop competing, and lovers stop having graphic sex in classical Greek art? The scenes depicted on Athenian pottery of the mid-fifth century BC are very different from those of the late sixth century. Did Greek potters have a different world to see—or did they come to see the world differently? In this lavishly illustrated and engagingly written book, Robin Osborne argues that these remarkable changes are the best evidence for the shifting nature of classical Greek culture.Osborne examines the thousands of surviving Athenian red-figure pots painted between 520 and 440 BC and describes the changing depictions of soldiers and athletes, drinking parties and religious occasions, sexual relations, and scenes of daily life. He shows that it was not changes in each activity that determined how the world was shown, but changes in values and aesthetics.By demonstrating that changes in artistic style involve choices about what aspects of the world we decide to represent as well as how to represent them, this book rewrites the history of Greek art. By showing that Greeks came to see the world differently over the span of less than a century, it reassesses the history of classical Greece and of Athenian democracy. And by questioning whether art reflects or produces social and political change, it provokes a fresh examination of the role of images in an ever-evolving world |

ROBIN OSBORNE: THE TRANSFORMATION OF ATHENS
DAS BUCH DES HERAUSRAGENDEN CAMBRIDGER ALTHISTORIKERS ROBIN OSBORNE
BEFASST SICH ZENTRAL MIT DEN BILDERN, DIE
ATHENISCHE LUXUSKERAMIK DES 6. UND 5. JH. V. CHR. SCHMUECKEN. DABEI
KONZENTRIERT ER SICH VOR ALLEM AUF DEN WANDEL,
DEN MAN ZWISCHEN DER SPAETARCHAISCHEN ZEIT UM 500 V. CHR. UND DER
KLASSISCHEN ZEIT UM DIE MITTE DES 5. JH.S V. CHR.
SOWOHL BEZUEGLICH DER WAHL DER BILDTHEMEN ALS AUCH BEZUEGLICH DER WEISE,
WIE DIESE KONKRET UMGESETZT WERDEN,
BEOBACHTEN KANN. OSBORNE GEHT ALSO DER TRADITIONSREICHEN FRAGE NACH, WIE
SICH DAS AUFKOMMEN DES IN DER
EUROPAEISCHEN GEISTESGESCHICHTE VIELBESCHWORENEN 'KLASSISCHEN
GRIECHENLANDS' ANHAND DES WANDELS DER KUNST
NACHZEICHNEN LAESST. DABEI WENDET ER SICH JEDOCH GEGEN DEN TRADITIONELLEN
DISKURS UM DIE SOG. 'GREEK REVOLUTION',
WELCHE VOR ALLEM IM AUFKOMMEN EINES NATURALISTISCHEN STILS BESTANDEN
HABE. R. OSBORNE BESCHAEFTIGT SICH DAGEGEN MIT
DEM INHALT DER BILDER, MIT DEREN IKONOGRAPHIE, UND DIES OHNE DER FRAGE
NACHZUGEHEN, OB KLASSISCHE VASENBILDER DIE
WELT NUN WIRKLICHKEITSGETREUER DARSTELLEN WUERDEN ALS ARCHAISCHE
VASENBILDER, SONDERN MIT DEM ZIEL, ZU VERSTEHEN, WIE
DIE VASENMALER UND IHRE KUNDEN DIE WELT MIT DER WENDE ZUR KLASSIK ANDERS
GESEHEN HABEN.
DAFUER WAEHLT SICH OSBORNE DIE BILDTHEMEN HERAUS, IN DENEN SICH DIE
WERTEWELT DER POLIS ATHEN BESONDERS INTENSIV
SPIEGELT: DAS GYMNASIUM ALS ORT DER PFLEGE DES EBENSO SCHOENEN UND
TUECHTIGEN MAENNLICHEN KOERPERS, KAMPF UND KRIEG
ALS ORT DER BEWAEHRUNG EBENJENER KOERPER DER MAENNER, DIE EROTISCHE
BEGEGNUNG VON MANN UND FRAU ODER MANN UND
MANN, DIE PFLEGE DER BEZIEHUNG ZU DEN GOETTERN (OPFERHANDLUNGEN USW.) UND
SCHLIESSLICH DAS GEMEINSAME TRINKGELAGE
DER MAENNER (DAS SYMPOSION), FUER WELCHES DIE MEISTEN ATTISCHEN
LUXUSKERAMIKGEFAESSE HERGESTELLT WURDEN. FUER ALL JENE
BILDTHEMEN, DIE JEWEILS IN EINEM EIGENEN KAPITEL BEHANDELT WERDEN, ZEIGT
OSBORNE IMMER WIEDER AEHNLICHE TENDENZEN
DES WANDELS AUF: DIE HANDLUNGSREICHEN BILDER DER SPAETARCHAIK, DIE
OFTMALS ATYPISCHES, TEILS NORMWIDRIGES VERHALTEN
ZEIGEN, WEICHEN RUHIGEREN BILDERN, IN DENEN ES WENIGER DARUM GEHT, WAS
DIE FIGUREN TUN, ALS DARUM, WER/WAS SIE SIND.
DIE NEUEN BILDER DER KLASSIK MACHEN SOMIT STETS AUCH DEM BETRACHTER EIN
IDENTITAETSANGEBOT, WIE ES OSBORNE ALS EINE
SEINER HAUPTTHESEN IMMER WIEDER HERVORHEBT.
ENTGEGEN VIELEN (INSBES. DEUTSCHSPRACHIGEN) VERSUCHEN DER 80ER UND 90ER
JAHREN, DIE VERAENDERUNG DER BILDER VOR DEM
HINTERGRUND DER GESCHICHTLICHEN ENTWICKLUNG ZU BETRACHTEN, FINDEN SICH
BEI OSBORNE KEINE REFLEXARTIGEN UND
EINDIMENSIONALEN ARGUMENTATIONSLINIEN, DIE ALLES UND JEDES WAHLWEISE MIT
DEM AUFKOMMEN DER DEMOKRATIE ODER DEN
PERSERKRIEGEN IN VERBINDUNG BRINGEN WOLLEN, UND DIE JUENGST IN W. FILSERS
(MIT DEM HIER REZENSIERTEN BUCH THEMATISCH
ENG VERWANDTEN) MONOGRAPHIE ZUR ATTISCHEN ELITE IN DER VASENMALEREI
EINER GRUNDSATZKRITIK UNTERZOGEN WURDEN. [1
]
DIESER VERSUCHUNG DIREKTER VERBINDUNG VON EREIGNIS- UND KUNSTGESCHICHTE
ERTEILT OSBORNE EINE KLARE ABSAGE UND GIBT
DAMIT EINEM INTENSIVEN EINGEHEN AUF DIE BILDER GEBUEHREND RAUM [2

INNOVATIVE PERSPEKTIVEN ZUR FOLGE HAT.

Mai 2019) How remarkable changes in ancient Greek pottery reveal the transformation of classical Greek cultureWhy did soldiers stop fighting, athletes stop competing, and lovers stop having graphic sex in classical Greek art? And by questioning whether art reflects or produces social and political change, it provokes a fresh examination of the role of images in an ever-evolving world In English Geschichte 520 v.
