Zusammenfassung: | Ethnic diversity, 'race', and racism have been subject to discussion in American studies departments at German universities for many years. It appears that especially in the past few decades, ethnic minorities and 'new immigrants' have increasingly become objects of scholarly inquiry. Such research questions focus on the U.S. and other traditionally multicultural societies that have emerged out of historical situations shaped by (settler) colonialism, slavery and/or large-scale immigration. Paradoxically, these studies have overwhelmingly been conducted by white scholars born in Germany and holding German citizenship. Scholars with actual experience of racial discrimination have remained largely unheard.Departing from a critique of practices employed by the German branch of the American studies, the volume offers (self-)reflective approaches by scholars from different fields in the German humanities. It thereby seeks to provide a solid basis for thorough and candid discussions of the mechanisms behind and the implications of racialized power relations in the German humanities and German society at large |

Bielefeld transcript [2019] © 2019 1 Online-Ressource (349 Seiten) Illustration txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Culture and social pratice Ethnic diversity, 'race', and racism have been subject to discussion in American studies departments at German universities for many years. It thereby seeks to provide a solid basis for thorough and candid discussions of the mechanisms behind and the implications of racialized power relations in the German humanities and German society at large American Studies In Germany American Studies Cultural Studies Diversity Equality Nationalism Pedagogy Populism Race Racism Science Sociology of Science Whiteness SOCIAL SCIENCE / Discrimination & Race Relations bisacsh Humanities Germany Minority college teachers Germany Racism in higher education Germany Kritik (DE-588)4033229-9 gnd rswk-swf Weiße (DE-588)4132038-4 gnd rswk-swf Amerikanistik (DE-588)4142196-6 gnd rswk-swf Selbstreflexion (DE-588)4132370-1 gnd rswk-swf Antirassismus (DE-588)4275311-9 gnd rswk-swf Multikulturelle Gesellschaft (DE-588)4214151-5 gnd rswk-swf Rassismus (DE-588)4076527-1 gnd rswk-swf Amerikaforschung (DE-588)4509702-1 gnd rswk-swf Rasse Motiv (DE-588)4254018-5 gnd rswk-swf Zugehörigkeit (DE-588)4365362-5 gnd rswk-swf Person of Color (DE-588)4034855-6 gnd rswk-swf Ethnische Identität (DE-588)4153096-2 gnd rswk-swf Ethnizität Motiv (DE-588)4438896-2 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 2016 Tübingen gnd-content Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Amerikaforschung (DE-588)4509702-1 s Ethnizität Motiv (DE-588)4438896-2 s Rasse Motiv (DE-588)4254018-5 s Multikulturelle Gesellschaft (DE-588)4214151-5 s Kritik (DE-588)4033229-9 s DE-604 Amerikanistik (DE-588)4142196-6 s Antirassismus (DE-588)4275311-9 s Weiße (DE-588)4132038-4 s Selbstreflexion (DE-588)4132370-1 s Rassismus (DE-588)4076527-1 s Person of Color (DE-588)4034855-6 s Ethnische Identität (DE-588)4153096-2 s Zugehörigkeit (DE-588)4365362-5 s Arghavan, Mahmoud (DE-588)1053806108 edt Hirschfelder, Nicole (DE-588)106077593X edt Kopp, Luvena (DE-588)1184932719 edt Motyl, Katharina (DE-588)1053780494 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-3-8376-4103-5 (DE-604)BV044718301 https://doi.org/10.14361/9783839441039 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
