Zusammenfassung: | Long before the mid-nineteenth century, thousands of people were constantly moving between the United States and British North America and Leghorn, Genoa, Naples, Rome, Sicily, Piedmont, Lombardy, Venice, and Trieste. Predominantly traders, sailors, transient workers, Catholic priests, and seminarians, this group relied on the exchange of goods across the Atlantic to solidify transatlantic relations; during this period, stories about the New World passed between travellers through word of mouth and letter writing. Blurred Nationalities challenges the idea that national origin, for instance, Italianness, comprises the only significant feature of a group’s identity, and reveals instead the multifaceted personalities of the people involved in these exchanges |

Apr 2019) Long before the mid-nineteenth century, thousands of people were constantly moving between the United States and British North America and Leghorn, Genoa, Naples, Rome, Sicily, Piedmont, Lombardy, Venice, and Trieste. Predominantly traders, sailors, transient workers, Catholic priests, and seminarians, this group relied on the exchange of goods across the Atlantic to solidify transatlantic relations; during this period, stories about the New World passed between travellers through word of mouth and letter writing. Blurred Nationalities challenges the idea that national origin, for instance, Italianness, comprises the only significant feature of a group’s identity, and reveals instead the multifaceted personalities of the people involved in these exchanges In English Geschichte 1763-1846 gnd rswk-swf America American Atlantic Catholic Church Italian Italy-North North early ethnic exchanges history identity international migration mobility national peninsula relations studies traders transatlantic HISTORY / Europe / Italy bisacsh Italians North America History 18th century Italians North America History 19th century Identität (DE-588)4026482-8 gnd rswk-swf Katholizismus (DE-588)4030027-4 gnd rswk-swf Migration (DE-588)4120730-0 gnd rswk-swf Handel (DE-588)4023222-0 gnd rswk-swf Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 gnd rswk-swf Nordamerika (DE-588)4042483-2 gnd rswk-swf Nordamerika (DE-588)4042483-2 g Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 g Handel (DE-588)4023222-0 s Identität (DE-588)4026482-8 s Migration (DE-588)4120730-0 s Katholizismus (DE-588)4030027-4 s Geschichte 1763-1846 z 1\p DE-604 https://doi.org/10.3138/9781487530440 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
