According to modern usage, Arabs are any of the Arabic-speaking peoples living in the vast region extending from Mauritania on the Atlantic coast of Africa, to southwestern Iran, including the entire Maghrib of North Africa, Egypt and the Sudan, the Arabian peninsula, Syria, and Iraq. In antiquity this term usually referred to the largely nomadic and pastoral Semitic tribes and peoples who lived in and around the modern Arabian peninsula.
