Zusammenfassung:The point of departure of this research is the intepretative-hermeneutic paradigm. With this method it is tried to clarify some important aspects of this TV-hit, especially why spectators are so fond of this series. - Interest is shown to following issues: - structure of a TV-series: How does the structure correspond with the needs of the spectators? Which basical needs of the spectators are addressed? - importance of camera focussing, music, light and montage - importance of the presentative symbolic in the series - psychoanalytic TV-setting and possibilities of transference - importance of repetitive contents like medicine and authority, sickness, home and nature, role models of sex and family. The analyses of these different contents are based on a comparison with real society. One part of the series (The optimist) is analysed on the basis of these aspects. All contents have been simplified in their complexity for a better presentation. Cultural positive stereotypes and wellknown, past-oriented interpretations have been pointed out and discussed. Today we live in a very complex segmented society in which religion, tradition, authority, values are changing. People experience this as loss of security, orientation, warmth and meaning of life. In addition, there occurred unexpected major changes in our daily life in the past few decades: the threat of nuclear power and the slow destruction of our environment. This will inevitably lead to a latent existential fear, to a collective oppression of regression and search for acceptance, interaction, help, protection and guidance, especially from people in positions of power and authority. In the Blackforest-Clinic the medical superintendent binds the fears of the spectators, though he gives short- time relief.
