Zusammenfassung: | The relative status of native and non-native speaker language teachers within educational institutions has long been an issue worldwide but until recently, the voices of teachers articulating their own concerns have been rare. Existing work has tended to focus upon the position of non-native teachers and their struggle against unfavourable comparisons with their native-speaker counterparts. However, more recently, native-speaker language teachers have also been placed in the academic spotlight as interest grows in language-based forms of prejudice such as ‘native-speakerism’ – a dominant ideology prevalent within the Japanese context of English language education. This innovative volume explores wide-ranging issues related to native-speakerism as it manifests itself in the Japanese and Italian educational contexts to show how native-speaker teachers can also be the targets of multifarious forms of prejudice and discrimination in the workplace |

Rivers, Stephanie Ann Houghton Blue Ridge Summit, PA Multilingual Matters [2013] © 2013 1 online resource txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Multilingual Matters Description based on online resource; title from PDF title page (publisher's Web site, viewed 25. Jul 2018) The relative status of native and non-native speaker language teachers within educational institutions has long been an issue worldwide but until recently, the voices of teachers articulating their own concerns have been rare. This innovative volume explores wide-ranging issues related to native-speakerism as it manifests itself in the Japanese and Italian educational contexts to show how native-speaker teachers can also be the targets of multifarious forms of prejudice and discrimination in the workplace In English Language and languages Study and teaching Japan Linguistic informants Japan Linguistics Study and teaching Japan Second language acquisition Fremdsprachenunterricht (DE-588)4018428-6 gnd rswk-swf Muttersprache (DE-588)4040962-4 gnd rswk-swf Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 g Muttersprache (DE-588)4040962-4 s Fremdsprachenunterricht (DE-588)4018428-6 s 2\p DE-604 Houghton, Stephanie Ann 1969- (DE-588)1023751429 edt Rivers, Damian J. edt https://doi.org/10.21832/9781847698704 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
