Zusammenfassung: | The negative impact of Japanese imperialism on both nations and societies has been amply demonstrated and cannot be denied, but In Transit focuses on the opportunities and unique experiences it afforded a number of extraordinary individuals to provide a fuller picture of Japanese colonial culture. By observing the empire—from Tokyo to remote Mongolia and colonial Taiwan, from the turn of the twentieth century to the postwar era—through the diverse perspectives of gender, the arts, and popular culture, it explores an area of colonial experience that straddles the public and the private, the national and the personal, thereby revealing a new aspect of the colonial condition and its postcolonial implications |

Nov 2017) The negative impact of Japanese imperialism on both nations and societies has been amply demonstrated and cannot be denied, but In Transit focuses on the opportunities and unique experiences it afforded a number of extraordinary individuals to provide a fuller picture of Japanese colonial culture. By observing the empire—from Tokyo to remote Mongolia and colonial Taiwan, from the turn of the twentieth century to the postwar era—through the diverse perspectives of gender, the arts, and popular culture, it explores an area of colonial experience that straddles the public and the private, the national and the personal, thereby revealing a new aspect of the colonial condition and its postcolonial implications In English Geschichte 1895-1945 gnd rswk-swf Imperialism Social aspects East Asia History 20th century Women East Asia History 20th century Kulturkontakt (DE-588)4033569-0 gnd rswk-swf Kulturpolitik (DE-588)4033581-1 gnd rswk-swf Kolonialismus (DE-588)4073624-6 gnd rswk-swf Ostasien (DE-588)4075727-4 gnd rswk-swf Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 gnd rswk-swf Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 g Kolonialismus (DE-588)4073624-6 s Ostasien (DE-588)4075727-4 g Kulturkontakt (DE-588)4033569-0 s Kulturpolitik (DE-588)4033581-1 s Geschichte 1895-1945 z 1\p DE-604 Fogel, Joshua A. edt https://www.degruyter.com/doi/book/10.21313/9780824838614 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
