RESUMME
HISTORICAL IDENTIFICATION AND DEVELOPMENT
OF THE VILLAGE OF LLUKA E EPERME (UPPER LLUKA)
Various studies that have been written about Kosovo, Dukagjini and in
particular about Defan allow us to make some comparisons, analogies, to
extract the old age of the Lluka village. The lack of archaeological studies
and discoveries, not only in Lluke e Eperme, but also in the territory of
Defan in general, have made it impossible to study this locality from
prehistoric times.
The excavations that would have to be done in Defan localities would be
deficient and ineffective if they did not pass through Lluka. Because the
existing toponyms such as Zefs lamds, Zefs Church in Lluka e Eperme
(Upper Lluke), the Church in Beleg, Lluga e Zymit, Kola s Tomb, Lluga e
Bufit, then the very name of the village Upper Lluka, tell us about the
ancients of this locality.
Perhaps for the same time I have to mention that, since 1318, “it can be
said that many Albanians (Albanian etymology and traditional Albanian
anthropologists) kept Albanian villages: Male and Degovc in Lluka (Defan),
Bukur and Bull in Isniq (Defan), Mireq, Miran, Rajko in Prapaqan (Defan),
Shakoje and Batilo in Strellc and Beleg (Defan), and others”.
That Upper Luke has an old background, telling us of some adjectives
that lead us to Illyrian times and especially to the early Middle Ages. The
prominent scholar E. Cabej, the bsdic anthroponims Sutta-Suttis considers
Illyrian. Meanwhile, a whole neighborhood in Lluka has sumamed Suti-aj
and is one of the oldest neighborhoods. While on Onomastics of Kosovo -
Discussions, we find the anthroponyms of the surname Mulliq and Mula. “In
the field of anthroponymy, we add to this the middle of all those who have
the patronage of the anthropononym of the type Mul- (Mulak, Muliq, Mula,
Mulliq, Muholl etc.) to have expanded from this settlement and thus spread
throughout Kosovo
In another approach, Academic Mark Krasniqi, Lug of Baran, ethno-
geography monograph, p. 116, says that in a Turkish defter of 1485, Nephi
appears as Popole, in a ziamet with Upper Lluke.
Thus found in front of the Albanian autochthony, pseudo Serbian
scholars tried to adopt the Albanian toponyms as theirs. The most
unreasonable case by the Serbian researcher to “conclude” that the name of

the village of Lluke e Eperme is linguistically Serbian has failed. They
created the name Luke from the Serbian word Ink (Allium cepa), could not
in any way argue and go farther than that. As Dr. Mr.Goci: There is no
trace of Serbian Christian terminology in Devon s microtopic, as the later
stratification of the Slavic-Serbian Orthodox element among Albanians .
Thus, the word “Lluka” has no trace of being Serbian, but has roots from
Illyrian Albanians. For this, according to some data we have found, we argue
that the word Lluka is an Albanian word.
Since the village of Lluke e Eperrn, it is time to the Mochni church, then
the traces of this name lead to this antiquity, especially when today in Lluka
are the toponyms “Ara e zefit” (Zefs Land), “Lluga e zymit-llugat” (Zymis
wet land), “Lugu i Dollave” (Dollas Walley) and others.
Luke s name is the old biblical name. Luke is a distinguished Christian
name, also preserved in Malesia e Shkodres and Rugova and is also today as
a surname Lukaj marking entire families in these two major Albanian
regions. The conversion of the name from Luka to Lluka, i think, is a
phonetic process of the Albanian on one side and the distortion of
pronunciation from the Albanian of the phonemic L in the LL of Slavic,
since in the Slavic languages is missing in the sound system, alphabetical,
phoneme L. While why in Albanian, the pronunciation of the consonant
phoneme in the LL is more than understandable: the phoneme 11 by the place
of formation is cohesive, the consonant 1 is alveolar if both sides, and by the
sound and noise participation both 11 and 1 are noisy. Referring to a popular
etymology, the name Lluke, is also related to the word Lluge, the words we
have explained earlier. The phonemes G and K are phonetically very close
and of the same kind as to the criterion of the place of formation, so they are
both behind the celestial with the only difference that in the substitution
process of G that with K, there has been a change of a phoneme g sound with
a k soundless phoneme.
The most convincing argument that Luke s microtome is not Slavic,
indicates that this toponym is reinforced by the Albanian word “Huge” - a
wetland, where the flat waters flow and grow verals, shelves. Usually in
Lluke e Eperme such places have had many ranging from Lluga e Zymi river
bank, Verrat e Lluka and to Lluga e Bufit. Then the area called Huge was also
across the entire fields and meadows of Lluka. This toponym of llug/e-a,
during time periods has changed depending on the pronunciation of the
language and most of the letter g has passed to k, from lluga to lluke.
According to the sources we have in hand, it is proved that the Lluke
form, even during the Middle Ages (and perhaps even earlier) was hardened
in the toponym. In the Scorching Deck of Sandzak of Shkodra (1485) we
found Lluke and Llukaci. The word lluk s, we encounter it in another sense,
but it is still very old, before the Middle Ages, and is hardened in the

toponymus as a land near the river. Then as a harbor, harbor, and scaffold
that the river itself could have been navigable from Luke until its discharge
into the Drin River.
“Lug, lug, valleys, Huge, a. This term also indicates a clear geographic
understanding that is obviously used for identifying name-countries. It can
be used for calling in a name, attached or mistypedform. For example, lugs,
luge, lugat (-lug at), Lluge... ’’
Luke may also make this geographic sense quite clear. Lluge, in Lluke,
accompanied by the surname, eg, Lluka above, Lluka e Eperm. The term
“depictive of geographic position”, which in English is represented by the -
upper (lexo-apper) and German -ober terms, means that here we are dealing
with a prehistoric term ie IE. This term is used in two terms: both the name
and the surname from which are created microtopons that characterize the
position of parts of settlements, fields and so on. For example, Such settings
with this term are: Hervor of Eper, Lluka e Eper etj. The question is why are
two same names villages; Upper Luka and Lower Luka, best explained by
Prof. M. Crarabregu; which says that large villages are usually created by the
two main parts that are more closely identified for their topographic
positions, ie, according to the existing hypsometry.
