Zusammenfassung: | The character of the English Church at the end of the sixteenth and beginning of the seventeenth century has always been a contentious historical issue. Concentrating on Cambridge University - where the critical theological debates took place and where new generations were schooled in learning and prejudice - this book aims to shed new light on the question, making use of a wealth of previously underexploited material from the archives of the University and the Colleges, and paying attention to some significant and unjustly neglected figures.
After setting the scene in the seventeenth-century city and university, the book goes on to provide a careful and detailed analysis of the debate about Anglicans and Puritans, Arminians and Calvinists; it offers a lively account of bitter academic and religious rivalries fought out in sermons, academic exercises and in print.

DAVID HOYLE is Canon Residentiary at Gloucester Cathedral and Director of Ministry in the Diocese of Gloucester |

DAVID HOYLE is Canon Residentiary at Gloucester Cathedral and Director of Ministry in the Diocese of Gloucester University of Cambridge / History / 17th century University of Cambridge (DE-588)7877-3 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1600-1700 Geschichte 1590-1644 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Kirchengeschichte Religion / Study and teaching (Higher) / England / Cambridge / History Religiöse Identität (DE-588)4354651-1 gnd rswk-swf Kontroverstheologie (DE-588)4165184-4 gnd rswk-swf Reformation (DE-588)4048946-2 gnd rswk-swf Cambridge (England) / Church history / 17th century Cambridge (England) / Intellectual life / 17th century Cambridge (DE-588)4009351-7 gnd rswk-swf University of Cambridge (DE-588)7877-3 b Reformation (DE-588)4048946-2 s Religiöse Identität (DE-588)4354651-1 s Geschichte 1590-1644 z 1\p DE-604 Cambridge (DE-588)4009351-7 g 2\p DE-604 Kontroverstheologie (DE-588)4165184-4 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, hardback 978-1-843-83325-3 https://www.cambridge.org/core/product/identifier/9781846155840/type/BOOK Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
