Zusammenfassung: | Climate fluctuations can trigger events that lead to mass migration, hunger and famine. Rather than attributing the blame to nature, the contributors look at the underlying causes of social vulnerability, such as the processes and organisation of society in the semi-arid tropics. Past and present susceptibility to destitution, hunger, and famine in the face of climate variability can teach us about the potential future consequences of climate change. By understanding why individuals, households, nations, and regions are vulnerable, and how they have buffered themselves against climatic and environmental fluctuations, present and future vulnerability can be redressed. Through case studies from across the globe, the authors explore past experiences with climate variability, and the likely effects of, and the possible policy responses to, the types of climatic events that global warming might bring |

Wilhite pt. IV The international conference on the impacts of climate variations and sustainable development in semi-arid regions (ICID) Declaration of Fortaleza Highlights of working group discussions and recommendations Climate fluctuations can trigger events that lead to mass migration, hunger and famine. Through case studies from across the globe, the authors explore past experiences with climate variability, and the likely effects of, and the possible policy responses to, the types of climatic events that global warming might bring Gesellschaft Klimaänderung Nachhaltigkeit Climatic changes / Social aspects / Tropics / Congresses Arid regions climate / Social aspects / Congresses Sustainable development / Tropics / Congresses Semiarides Gebiet (DE-588)4137761-8 gnd rswk-swf Sozialer Wandel (DE-588)4077587-2 gnd rswk-swf Klimaschwankung (DE-588)4031175-2 gnd rswk-swf Halbwüste (DE-588)4158835-6 gnd rswk-swf Umweltverträglichkeit (DE-588)4061655-1 gnd rswk-swf Klimaänderung (DE-588)4164199-1 gnd rswk-swf Sozioökonomischer Wandel (DE-588)4318539-3 gnd rswk-swf Tropen (DE-588)4060997-2 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift gnd-content Tropen (DE-588)4060997-2 g Semiarides Gebiet (DE-588)4137761-8 s Klimaschwankung (DE-588)4031175-2 s Sozialer Wandel (DE-588)4077587-2 s 1\p DE-604 Klimaänderung (DE-588)4164199-1 s Umweltverträglichkeit (DE-588)4061655-1 s 2\p DE-604 3\p DE-604 Halbwüste (DE-588)4158835-6 s Sozioökonomischer Wandel (DE-588)4318539-3 s 4\p DE-604 Ribot, Jesse C. 1959- edt Magalhães, Antonio Rocha edt Panagides, Stahis S. 1937- edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-01947-7 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-48074-1 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511608308 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
