Zusammenfassung: | Over seventy per cent of the population in industrialized nations live in cities; soon, so will most of the world's population. This volume examines the impact of urban living on human health and biology. Cities pose numerous and diverse social and biological challenges to human populations which bear little resemblance to the forces that moulded human biology through millions of years of evolution. Urban populations in industrialized nations have distinctive patterns of behaviour, social stratification, stress, infectious disease, diet, activity and exposure to pollutants from years of industrialization. These features affect diverse aspects of human function including human nutrition, energy expenditure, growth and reproduction. This volume begins with an introduction to the history of urbanism and poverty, infectious disease, reproductive function, child health, nutrition, physical activity and psychosocial stress. The book will appeal to workers in urban planning, human biology, anthropology, preventative medicine, human ecology and related areas |

The future of urban environments / S. J. Ulijaszek and L. M. Schell Over seventy per cent of the population in industrialized nations live in cities; soon, so will most of the world's population. The book will appeal to workers in urban planning, human biology, anthropology, preventative medicine, human ecology and related areas Stadt Urban health Cities and towns / Health aspects Urban ecology (Sociology) / Health aspects City dwellers / Health aspects Gesundheit (DE-588)4020754-7 gnd rswk-swf Stadt (DE-588)4056723-0 gnd rswk-swf Humanbiologie (DE-588)4160775-2 gnd rswk-swf Verstädterung (DE-588)4063234-9 gnd rswk-swf Industriestaaten (DE-588)4026840-8 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Industriestaaten (DE-588)4026840-8 g Verstädterung (DE-588)4063234-9 s Gesundheit (DE-588)4020754-7 s 2\p DE-604 Stadt (DE-588)4056723-0 s 3\p DE-604 Humanbiologie (DE-588)4160775-2 s 4\p DE-604 Schell, Lawrence M. edt Ulijaszek, Stanley J. edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-11763-0 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-62097-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511525698 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
