Zusammenfassung: | The theologians of the late German Enlightenment saw in Kant's Critique of Pure Reason a new rational defence of their Christian faith. In fact, Kant's critical theory of meaning and moral law totally subverted the spirit of that faith. This challenging new study examines the contribution made by the Critique of Pure Reason to this change of meaning. George di Giovanni stresses the revolutionary character of Kant's critical thought but also reveals how this thought was being held hostage to unwarranted metaphysical assumptions that caused much confusion and rendered the First Critique vulnerable to being reabsorbed into modes of thought typical of Enlightenment popular philosophy. Amongst the striking features of this book are nuanced interpretations of Jacobi and Reinhold, a lucid exposition of Fichte's early thought, and a rare, detailed account of Enlightenment popular philosophy |

Amongst the striking features of this book are nuanced interpretations of Jacobi and Reinhold, a lucid exposition of Fichte's early thought, and a rare, detailed account of Enlightenment popular philosophy Kant, Immanuel / 1724-1804 / Kritik der reinen Vernunft Kant, Immanuel / 1724-1804 / Religion Kant, Immanuel 1724-1804 (DE-588)118559796 gnd rswk-swf Kant, Immanuel 1724-1804 Kritik der reinen Vernunft (DE-588)4099256-1 gnd rswk-swf Fichte, Johann Gottlieb 1762-1814 Die Bestimmung des Menschen (DE-588)4139240-1 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1700-1800 Geschichte 1774-1800 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Philosophy and religion / History / 18th century Religionsphilosophie (DE-588)4049415-9 gnd rswk-swf Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 gnd rswk-swf Philosophie (DE-588)4045791-6 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf Kant, Immanuel 1724-1804 (DE-588)118559796 p Religionsphilosophie (DE-588)4049415-9 s 1\p DE-604 Kant, Immanuel 1724-1804 Kritik der reinen Vernunft (DE-588)4099256-1 u Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 s Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Philosophie (DE-588)4045791-6 s Geschichte 1774-1800 z DE-604 Fichte, Johann Gottlieb 1762-1814 Die Bestimmung des Menschen (DE-588)4139240-1 u Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-09981-3 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-84451-2 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511498084 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
