Zusammenfassung: | Existing models of state formation are derived primarily from early Western European experience, and are misleading when applied to nation-states struggling to consolidate their dominion in the present period. In this volume, scholars suggest that the Western European model of armies waging war on behalf of sovereign states does not hold universally. The importance of 'irregular' armed forces - militias, guerrillas, paramilitaries, mercenaries, bandits, vigilantes, police, and so on - has been seriously neglected in the literature on this subject. The case studies in this book suggest, among other things, that the creation of the nation-state as a secure political entity rests as much on 'irregular' as regular armed forces. For most of the 'developing' world, the state's legitimacy has been difficult to achieve, constantly eroding or challenged by irregular armed forces within a country's borders. No account of modern state formation can be considered complete without attending to irregular forces |

Pereira Existing models of state formation are derived primarily from early Western European experience, and are misleading when applied to nation-states struggling to consolidate their dominion in the present period. No account of modern state formation can be considered complete without attending to irregular forces Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Civil-military relations Armed Forces / Political activity State, The Guerilla (DE-588)4022462-4 gnd rswk-swf Gründung (DE-588)4020642-7 gnd rswk-swf Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 gnd rswk-swf Söldnerheer (DE-588)4181722-9 gnd rswk-swf Paramilitärischer Verband (DE-588)4192344-3 gnd rswk-swf Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 s Gründung (DE-588)4020642-7 s Söldnerheer (DE-588)4181722-9 s Paramilitärischer Verband (DE-588)4192344-3 s Guerilla (DE-588)4022462-4 s Geschichte z 2\p DE-604 Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 s 3\p DE-604 4\p DE-604 5\p DE-604 Davis, Diane E. 1953- (DE-588)172812895 edt Pereira, Anthony 1959- (DE-588)171063171 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-0-521-81277-1 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 0-521-81277-1 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511510038 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
