Zusammenfassung: | In 1914 the British government was not interested in national self-determination in eastern Europe, but by November 1918 it was deeply involved with various eastern European subject nationalities and was committed by implication to their independence. This book attempts to explain this evolution in British policy in the case of the Poles, Czechoslovaks and Yugoslavs, the three most important subject nationalities in eastern Europe. The book is based primarily on the official records of the British government, which have been supplemented with material from private collections. Dr Calder argues that British policy on national self-determination developed not as a result of theoretical speculations but of the wartime relations between the government and the Polish, Czechoslovak and Yugoslav national organizations. This book traces the evolution in British relations with the Polish, Czechoslovak and Yugoslav nationality organizations from August 1914 to November 1918. It shows how the initial contacts were established and how relations developed gradually as the government sought to use these organisations in propaganda, espionage and the formation of military units. It attempts to assess the effects of this co-operation on the attitudes of British officials and the policy of the government |

Calder Britain & the Origins of the New Europe 1914–1918 Cambridge Cambridge University Press 1976 1 online resource (viii, 268 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier LSE monographs in international studies Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) In 1914 the British government was not interested in national self-determination in eastern Europe, but by November 1918 it was deeply involved with various eastern European subject nationalities and was committed by implication to their independence. It attempts to assess the effects of this co-operation on the attitudes of British officials and the policy of the government Geschichte 1914-1918 gnd rswk-swf Außenpolitik Minderheit Weltkrieg (1914-1918) World War, 1914-1918 / Diplomatic history World War, 1914-1918 / Great Britain Minorities / Europe, Eastern Self-determination, National Außenpolitik (DE-588)4003846-4 gnd rswk-swf Entstehung (DE-588)4156614-2 gnd rswk-swf Erster Weltkrieg (DE-588)4079163-4 gnd rswk-swf Anfang (DE-588)4001988-3 gnd rswk-swf Diplomatie (DE-588)4012402-2 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Great Britain / Foreign relations / 1910-1936 Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Außenpolitik (DE-588)4003846-4 s Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 g Geschichte 1914-1918 z 1\p DE-604 Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g 2\p DE-604 Erster Weltkrieg (DE-588)4079163-4 s 3\p DE-604 Entstehung (DE-588)4156614-2 s 4\p DE-604 Diplomatie (DE-588)4012402-2 s 5\p DE-604 6\p DE-604 Anfang (DE-588)4001988-3 s 7\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-09020-9 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-20897-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511897153 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 7\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
