Zusammenfassung: | Social and political theorists have traced in detail how individuals come to possess gender, sex and racial identities. This book examines the nature of these identities. Georgia Warnke argues that identities, in general, are interpretations and, as such, have more in common with textual understanding than we commonly acknowledge. A racial, sexed or gendered understanding of who we and others are is neither exhaustive of the 'meanings' we can be said to have nor uniquely correct. We are neither always, or only, black or white, men or women or males or females. Rather, all identities have a restricted scope and can lead to injustices and contradictions when they are employed beyond that scope. In concluding her argument, Warnke considers the legal and policy implications that follow for affirmative action, childbearing leave, the position of gays in the military and marriage between same-sex partners |

In concluding her argument, Warnke considers the legal and policy implications that follow for affirmative action, childbearing leave, the position of gays in the military and marriage between same-sex partners Gesellschaft Recht Identity (Psychology) Identity (Psychology) / Social aspects Identity politics Ethnicity Sex role Discrimination / Law and legislation Rasse (DE-588)4048440-3 gnd rswk-swf Soziale Identität (DE-588)4077567-7 gnd rswk-swf Ethnische Identität (DE-588)4153096-2 gnd rswk-swf Psychologie (DE-588)4047704-6 gnd rswk-swf Geschlechtsidentität (DE-588)4181116-1 gnd rswk-swf Geschlecht (DE-588)4020547-2 gnd rswk-swf Identität (DE-588)4026482-8 gnd rswk-swf Diskriminierung (DE-588)4012472-1 gnd rswk-swf Soziale Identität (DE-588)4077567-7 s Ethnische Identität (DE-588)4153096-2 s Geschlechtsidentität (DE-588)4181116-1 s Diskriminierung (DE-588)4012472-1 s Psychologie (DE-588)4047704-6 s 1\p DE-604 Rasse (DE-588)4048440-3 s Identität (DE-588)4026482-8 s 2\p DE-604 3\p DE-604 Geschlecht (DE-588)4020547-2 s 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-70929-3 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-88281-1 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511490392 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
