Zusammenfassung: | Democratic governments are able to elicit, legally and legitimately, both money and men from their populations. Certainly there is tax evasion, draft evasion, and even outright resistance; yet to a remarkable extent citizens acquiesce and even actively consent to the demands of governments, well beyond the point explicable by coercion. This is a puzzle for social scientists, particularly those who believe that individuals are self-interested, rational actors who calculate only the private egoistic costs and benefits of possible choices. The provisions of collective good should never justify a quasi-voluntary tax payment and the benefits of a war could not possibly exceed the cost of dying. This book explains the institutionalization of policy in response to anticipated and actual citizen behaviour and the conditions under which citizens give, refuse and withdraw their consent. Professor Levi claims that citizens' consent is contingent upon the perceived fairness of both the government and of other citizens. Most citizens of democracies, most of the time, are more likely to give their consent if they believe that government actors and other citizens are behaving fairly toward them |

Most citizens of democracies, most of the time, are more likely to give their consent if they believe that government actors and other citizens are behaving fairly toward them Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Allegiance Patriotism Democracy Draft Conscientious objection Internationaler Vergleich (DE-588)4120509-1 gnd rswk-swf Demokratie (DE-588)4011413-2 gnd rswk-swf Kriegsdienstverweigerung (DE-588)4033123-4 gnd rswk-swf Patriotismus (DE-588)4132835-8 gnd rswk-swf Wehrdienst (DE-588)4117605-4 gnd rswk-swf Loyalität (DE-588)4168194-0 gnd rswk-swf Bürger (DE-588)4008764-5 gnd rswk-swf Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 gnd rswk-swf Zustimmung (DE-588)4068165-8 gnd rswk-swf Demokratie (DE-588)4011413-2 s Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 s Bürger (DE-588)4008764-5 s Zustimmung (DE-588)4068165-8 s 1\p DE-604 Wehrdienst (DE-588)4117605-4 s Loyalität (DE-588)4168194-0 s Internationaler Vergleich (DE-588)4120509-1 s Geschichte z 2\p DE-604 Patriotismus (DE-588)4132835-8 s 3\p DE-604 Kriegsdienstverweigerung (DE-588)4033123-4 s 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-59055-6 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-59961-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511609336 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
