Zusammenfassung: | This major new textbook addresses fundamental questions about the nature of the state in early modern Europe through an analysis of the most important continental state, France. Professor Collins abandons the traditional formulation of the absolute monarchy, and presents in its place a state that evolved to meet the needs of the French elites. Collins offers a detailed analysis of French society, to provide the broader context for the development of the French state. The model that emerges from his synthesis is one that relied more on persuasion and congruity of influence than on arbitrary authority, and Collins argues that fundamental changes in French society made the monarchical, ministerial state a dangerous anachronism by the 1750s, leading to political impasse by the second half of the eighteenth century. Collins offers a fundamental reinterpretation of the state relevant to historians and students of political thought |

Collins offers a fundamental reinterpretation of the state relevant to historians and students of political thought Geschichte 1589-1789 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1620-1789 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Monarchy / France / History Nationalstaat (DE-588)4041331-7 gnd rswk-swf Monarchie (DE-588)4040034-7 gnd rswk-swf Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich France / History / Bourbons, 1589-1789 Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Monarchie (DE-588)4040034-7 s Geschichte 1620-1789 z 1\p DE-604 Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 s 2\p DE-604 Nationalstaat (DE-588)4041331-7 s Geschichte 1589-1789 z 3\p DE-604 Geschichte z 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-0-521-38284-7 0-521-38284-X (DE-604)BV010459579 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-0-521-38724-8 0-521-38724-8 New approaches to European history 5 (DE-604)BV046318773 5 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139170147 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
